Khyber Pakhtunkhwa awarded hosting rights for judo, volleyball in 14th South Asian Games 2027

By Nawaz Gohar ;  Following extensive advocacy from provincial authorities, sports associations, and local athletes, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has officially been awarded the hosting rights for Judo and Volleyball events in the upcoming 14th South Asian Games 2027.

According to an official notification issued by the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA), both disciplines will take place at Peshawar’s flagship Qayyum Sports Complex.

The decision comes after initial event distributions excluded the province, triggering strong reactions from KP government officials, sports bodies, and local competitors.

Stakeholders had urged the organizers and the POA to grant the province a hosting role to showcase KP’s sports infrastructure and international-caliber talent on a global stage. In response, organizers updated the master schedule to incorporate Peshawar alongside the primary host cities.

As per the revised venue master plan:

Islamabad will host 12 sports: Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Billiards & Snooker, Football, Karate, Rowing, Squash, Table Tennis, Tennis, Triathlon, and Weightlifting.

Lahore will host 14 sports: Archery, Boxing, Cricket, Fencing, Golf, Handball, Hockey, Kabaddi, Rugby, Shooting, Swimming, Taekwondo, Wrestling, and Wushu.

Peshawar will host 2 sports: Judo and Volleyball.

Expressing gratitude to the POA and the South Asian Games organizing committee, KP Advisor on Sports and Youth Affairs Taj Muhammad Khan Tarand, former Provincial Sports Minister Syed Aqil Shah, Olympic Secretary Zulfiqar Butt, and Director General of Sports KP Tashfeen Haider welcomed the announcement.

Provincial officials reaffirmed their commitment to working closely with the POA and national sports federations to ensure state-of-the-art arrangements at the Qayyum Sports Complex, paving the way for further international sporting events in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
