Model Town edge Lahore Cantt by 9 runs to lift Regional T20 trophy
By Nawaz Gohar ; Lahore Model Town defeated Lahore Cantt by nine runs to win the Al-Fatah Lahore Region T20 Championship in a closely contested final.
The match, played at the LCCA Ground, saw Model Town bat first after winning the toss. They posted a competitive total of 160 for seven in their allotted 20 overs. Syed Junaid Ali played a memorable innings of 72 runs, anchoring the batting effort with confidence and composure. For Lahore Cantt, Asadullah claimed two wickets to keep his side in the contest.
In reply, Lahore Cantt were bowled out for 152 in the 19th over despite a spirited chase. Ali Hassan Baloch scored a fighting 54, while Farhan Yousaf contributed 31 runs. However, disciplined bowling from Kamran Afzal and Muhammad Waheed, who picked up two wickets each, ensured Model Town maintained control at crucial stages of the innings.
Junaid Ali was declared Player of the Match for his outstanding batting performance.
At the conclusion of the tournament, Ali Hassan Baloch was named Player of the Tournament for his impressive all-round display, scoring 178 runs and taking 11 wickets. Abdullah Asif earned the Best Batter award with 230 runs, while Zain Bin Farooq was declared Best Wicketkeeper for his 12 catches. Kamran Afzal secured the Best Bowler award after finishing with 12 wickets in the tournament.
The winning team received a trophy along with a cash prize of Rs100,000, while the runners-up were awarded a trophy and Rs50,000.
Chief Executive Officer of Al-Fatah Group, Anees Iqbal Sheikh, graced the occasion as chief guest. Several distinguished guests, including Khawaja Nadeem Ahmed, Sardar Naushad Ahmed, Ejaz Butt, Bilal Muqeet, Nawab Mansoor Hayat, Malik Imran Bacha, Waqar Al-Munir, Naseer Shahzad, Shehbaz Ali, Muhammad Arshad, Akmal Shah, Jahangir Afzal, Sohail Ali, Irfan Munawar, Mian Aslam, and Manager Cricket Operations Abid Hussain, also attended the closing ceremony and encouraged the players.
