By Nawaz Gohar ; Pakistan’s Olympic gold medallist Arshad Nadeem clinched the gold medal in the men’s javelin throw event at the National Games, reaffirming his dominance in the field.
Representing Pakistan WAPDA, Arshad delivered an impressive throw of 81.81 metres, securing a comfortable lead over his competitors. His WAPDA teammate Yasir Sultan won the silver medal with a best effort of 70.77 metres, while Abrar Ali of Pakistan Army secured the bronze with a throw of 67.68 metres.
Arshad had earlier performed a ceremonial throw during the opening ceremony of the National Games in front of chief guest Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, drawing applause from the spectators.
Speaking to the media after his latest triumph, Arshad expressed optimism about the future, saying he hopes to deliver more victories for Pakistan, provided he remains injury-free.
“If I can stay away from injuries, I will continue bringing success to Pakistan. My wish is to successfully defend my title at the next Olympics in Los Angeles 2028,” he said.
The Tokyo Olympics hero, who has battled multiple injuries in recent years, revealed that he did not exert his full strength during the event, choosing instead to prioritise recovery and fitness. “I didn’t compete with full power to avoid injury. My main purpose in participating was to encourage the youth,” he noted.
Arshad also expressed satisfaction with the facilities provided by the government and praised the performance of his younger brother, who competed for Pakistan Navy. “I’m very happy with my brother’s performance and grateful for the support being extended to athletes. I hope this patronage continues,” he added.
His coach, Salman Butt, said the focus remains on keeping Arshad fully fit and guiding him away from further injuries. “Arshad has worked incredibly hard, and we are now seeing the results. The Pakistan Sports Board fulfilled its legal responsibilities, and I am happy justice has been served. We expect Arshad to continue making the nation proud,” he stated.
