PM Shehbaz applauds PSL expansion; meets owners of Sialkot and Hyderabad franchises

By Nawaz Gohar ; Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday met with the representatives of the firms that successfully secured the bidding rights for two new franchises in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The meeting marks a significant milestone in the league’s history, expanding its roster to include teams from Sialkot and Hyderabad.

The delegation included Hamza Majeed of “OZ Developers,” the firm that acquired the Sialkot franchise, and Fawad Sarwar of “FKS,” the owners of the Hyderabad franchise. Federal Minister for Interior and Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Mohsin Naqvi, along with Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, were also in attendance.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister extended his heartiest congratulations to the successful bidders. He specifically lauded PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and the board’s management for conducting an exemplary procurement process. “The fact that the bidding process for the new PSL teams was broadcast live on national television is a testament to its absolute transparency,” the Prime Minister remarked.

Prime Minister Sharif emphasized that the addition of Sialkot and Hyderabad will serve as a “breath of fresh air” for the league. He highlighted several key benefits of this expansion:

Talent Discovery: The new teams will provide a platform for emerging cricketers at the grassroots level, ensuring that talent from diverse regions reaches the national stage.

Foreign Investment: The Prime Minister noted with satisfaction that international firms participated in the bidding, which serves as a major boost for foreign direct investment in Pakistan.

Global Popularity: The high level of interest shown by both domestic and international companies underscores the growing global prestige and commercial value of the PSL.

The Prime Minister also took the opportunity to acknowledge the vital role of the Pakistani diaspora. He noted that overseas Pakistanis have consistently contributed to the country’s economic and social development, and their involvement in the sports sector is no exception.

The meeting concluded with the Prime Minister expressing his best wishes for the new franchise owners, hoping that their participation would further elevate the standard of cricket and entertainment in Pakistan.
