PSL escapes postponement; major changes announced; fans barred from stadiums

By Nawaz Gohar ; PCB Chairman Syed Mohsin Naqvi has said that the opening ceremony has been cancelled and that expenses will not be high.

He stated this during a press conference held in Lahore. “PSL matches will now take place in only two cities — Karachi and Lahore. Consultations regarding PSL were ongoing, and we don’t know how long the war will continue.”

Mohsin Naqvi said that PSL is an international brand and foreign players are part of it. PSL 11 will begin as scheduled on March 26, and holding the league is essential.

The PCB chairman said the board will give gate-money to the franchises. A new schedule will be issued with minimum team travel. PSL matches will be held without spectators.

Naqvi asserted that fans will be able to get refunds for their tickets. “We apologise to the fans. We pray that the situation in the region returns to normal soon. Full-time PCB staff cannot go to PSL, but part-time staff will work with the teams.”

He said that there was no available window if the PSL had been postponed. “This is an international brand. There is no security issue; all agencies are on alert. Threats were prevented beforehand. We should be proud of our intelligence agencies — they stopped things from happening before they could occur.”
