KARACHI: The Honorary Consul General of Yemen and Chairman Baig Group, Dr. Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, has advised the students to work hard and also participate in sports activities besides concentrating on their studies to remain both mentally and physically fit.
Speaking as chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony of HEC Intervarsity TT Men’s Championship-Zone G, organized by HEC and NewPorts Institute at Sindh Sports Board Complex, he lauded the HEC for successful holding of the event and hoped that more such events will be held regularly to unearth new talent and providing enhanced opportunities to talented youth to horn their skills.
Later, the chief guest presented prizes to winners Iqra University and runners-up IBA teams. Also present on the occasion were Ms. Huma Bukhari, Mahmood Ahmed, Turab Shah, Saleem Ahmed, Secretary Sindh Table Tennis Association, Asif Azeem, Chairman Karachi Sports Foundation, and organizers of the tournament.Earlier in the final, Iqra University beat IBA University 3-0.
Talented Arsalan Alvi beat Ahmed comprehensively three straight sets i.e, 11-8, 12-10, 11-8 in while Furqan Patel made good of Masood beating him three to one i.e., 11- 1, 11-5, 13-11.Huzaifa Hatim also played magnificently and outclassed Irtaza beating him in three straight sets i.e., 11-5, 11-8, 11-4.
The two-day event was played from Feb 16 to Feb 17, featuring teams from as many as thirteen universities. Matches were played in the singles & doubles categories.Results are as follows: Iqra 1st position, IBA 2nd position while IOBM and PAF KIET varsity got third and fourth positions respectively
