Zero Tolerance: PSB reaffirms clean sports policy following landmark CAS anti-doping ruling
By Nawaz Gohar ; The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) has formally welcomed the landmark ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s Anti-Doping Division (CAS ADD), which has imposed lifetime bans on former Pakistan Weightlifting Federation (PWLF) President Hafiz Imran Butt and coach Irfan Butt for severe anti-doping rule violations.
In an official statement released on Sunday, the PSB hailed the decision as a “significant milestone” in the ongoing battle to safeguard the integrity of national sports and to hold accountable those responsible for systemic doping practices.
The CAS ruling serves as a high-level validation of the PSB’s own disciplinary measures. It is worth noting that the Board had already taken proactive steps in November 2025, suspending and banning the officials in question following a rigorous due process and multiple investigative hearings. This independent verdict from the CAS now reinforces the PSB’s firm and principled stance against administrative and athletic misconduct.
“Our anti-doping policy, unveiled last year, is built on a foundation of zero tolerance,” a spokesperson for the PSB stated. “There is no room in Pakistani sports for those who compromise the spirit of fair play. Under this uncompromising policy, the individuals named in the CAS decision are strictly prohibited from participating in any sports-related activity within Pakistan, in any capacity whatsoever.”
The Pakistan Sports Board further affirmed that it will ensure full and stringent compliance with the CAS decision across all tiers of the sporting fraternity. This move is seen as a clear signal to all national federations that the era of impunity regarding doping is over, as the Board moves toward a more transparent and “clean” athletic culture in Pakistan.
