From a Single Room to PSL Stardom:

The Rise of Hamza Majeed Chaudhry and Sialkot’s Record-Breaking Acquisition

By Nawaz Gohar ; Following the historic expansion of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), much of the sporting and business world’s attention has turned to Hamza Majeed Chaudhry, the Chairman of OZ Group. Chaudhry made headlines today by securing the league’s eighth franchise, Sialkot, with a record-shattering bid of Rs 1.85 billion ($6.55 million), marking a new chapter for both the city of Sialkot and the league’s financial landscape.

A Journey of Entrepreneurial Grit ;
Hamza Majeed Chaudhry’s story is one of classic entrepreneurial resilience. Born in Kuwait to an expatriate Pakistani family, he later moved to Australia to pursue higher education. It was there, in 2008, that he laid the foundations of his business empire, starting his first venture from the confines of a single room.

In 2019, he established the OZ Group, a conglomerate that has since become a powerhouse in the real estate and construction sectors. Despite his international success, Chaudhry maintained a strong connection to his roots, eventually moving his base to Pakistan in 2020. His return came at a challenging time for the domestic market; he has frequently noted that the Pakistani real estate sector has faced a significant decline in public trust over the last five years—a challenge he aims to address through transparency and large-scale development.

Diversified Business Empire ;
Under Chaudhry’s leadership, OZ Group has rapidly expanded its footprint across multiple industries. Beyond real estate, the group owns several prominent brands, including the well-known trading platform Wise Market. Perhaps his most ambitious project to date is the construction of Lahore’s tallest building, a high-rise landmark that is currently under development and promises to redefine the city’s skyline.

Deepening Ties with Cricket ;
While the acquisition of the Sialkot franchise is his largest sporting investment to date, Hamza Majeed Chaudhry is no stranger to the world of cricket. He has a history of supporting the sport on an international level, having previously sponsored the World Championship of Legends held in the United Kingdom.

His entry into the PSL, however, represents a much deeper commitment. By outbidding competitors and raising the initial base price of Rs 1.7 billion to a final Rs 1.85 billion, Chaudhry has signaled his immense confidence in the PSL brand. Speaking on the acquisition, he emphasized that for him, cricket is more than a business, it is a passion that “runs in his blood.” With the Sialkot franchise now under his wing, Chaudhry aims to blend his corporate expertise with his love for the game to lead the team to victory in the upcoming 11th edition of the league.
