PM Shehbaz greenlights spectator entry for Playoffs

By Nawaz Gohar ;  In a major boost for cricket enthusiasts, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has officially approved public attendance for the high-stakes play-offs of the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11.

The announcement was made by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi on Monday following a high-level meeting with the Premier.

Taking to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Naqvi confirmed that the stadiums will be open to fans starting with the first Qualifier between Peshawar Zalmi and Islamabad United, scheduled for Tuesday at Karachi’s National Bank Stadium.

“I am pleased to share that we have secured the Prime Minister’s approval for public attendance in all three PSL play-off matches,” Naqvi stated.

However, the Prime Minister’s endorsement carries a specific directive rooted in national responsibility. In a bid to align the tournament with the government’s ongoing national austerity efforts, the Premier has urged spectators to prioritize public transport when traveling to the venues. This measure is intended to minimize individual fuel consumption and reduce the logistical burden on the city’s infrastructure.

“The Prime Minister has set an important condition: fans are strongly encouraged to use public transport to minimize fuel consumption,” Naqvi emphasized in his post.

Beyond the logistical arrangements, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended his best wishes to the four qualifying franchises—Peshawar Zalmi, Islamabad United, Multan Sultans, and Hyderabad Kingsmen—as they prepare for the tournament’s climactic phase.

“Looking forward to some exciting and entertaining cricket ahead,” the PCB Chairman concluded, signaling a vibrant end to the eight-team tournament that culminates in the grand finale this weekend.
